Living with the Tetons in my backyard means I spend a lot of time in Grand Teton National Park each year. After photographing weddings, elopements, engagements, and surmise proposal throughout the park, I’ve learned which locations work best for different seasons, where the light disappears first, which spots require the least walking, and how crowds and weather can change a session and knowing when to pivot.

Any “commitment” ceremony will need a permit if you are inside Grand Teton National Park. The type of permit will depend on the group size and location. I help my couples understand what applies to their plans and which locations will be best for their preferences.

Sunset, hands down. Sunrise means direct eastern light hitting the Tetons and often much brighter, contrasted conditions once the sun clears the horizon. Not to mention chilly early mornings. My work is built around softer, more evening light which you’ll see in my photos.

I recommend a minimum of 3 hours to allow time for a first look (if you choose to), ceremony coverage, family/ group photos and time to go to at least 1-2 locations outside of the ceremony location.
